After School Classes

Drumming & Rhythm

After School Programme

Course Description

Specialist musician, composer and conductor André Lousada leads the brand new and exciting music class, Drumming & Rhythm, featuring a variety of techniques, games, and activities to teach the budding musicians about pace, tempo, melody, frequency, intervals and expression.

André has a wealth of musical experience from all over the world, conducting orchestras in America, Prague, Berlin, Portugal and more. As well as attending numerous musical masterclasses and workshops, he has worked alongside other artists, singers, pianists, cellists, and directed symphonic orchestras throughout his musical career.

Goals

Drumming is a subject that has great benefits to a child's development. Drums can reinforce speech, vocalisations, sounds and even help with sentence building. It also develops eye-hand coordination and other motor skills. Drumming with mallets helps with reaching, grasping, fluidity of movement and fine motor skills. Additionally, as well as being a lot of fun, it also improves impulse control, turn-taking, sharing and taking cues from one another.

The goal of the Drumming & Rhythm course is to introduce the children to new musical concepts and provide opportunity to produce rhythm and music individually and within a group. The course will combine a love of language, singing, performance and musical instruments together. The children will use drumming as a tool to express themselves, boost brain power and even increase academic performance. Drumming coordinates all four limbs to work together at the same time which requires you to use both sides of your brain simultaneously. Drums can lso boost maths performances as the children are encouraged to count as they learn fractions and intervals while playing.

Content

Each lesson, the children will have the opportunity to use a variety of different drums to learn about 'pulse and grooves', which music specialist Andre calls 'the essential element of teaching rhythm. From tambourines, tapping sticks, djembe, xylophones and more, the class will start with the basics and really get the children connected with the instruments.
