Course Description
8-Week Afterschool Programme
Discovering the joy of math through real-life experiences!
Our hands-on Real-Life Math programme turns everyday activities, shopping, cooking, organising, and using money into exciting learning adventures.
What Children Will Learn
Throughout the 8-week programme, children will:
- Build strong number sense
- Practice counting, sorting, comparing, and measuring
- Explore basic money concepts such as coins, value, and simple budgeting
- Strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving
- Learn how math is used in everyday life
- Work cooperatively through team-based cooking and role-play
Each session includes hands-on exploration, colourful learning materials, and a take-home activity worksheet to continue learning at home.
8-Week Course Outline
Week 1 – Let’s Go Shopping!
Children explore a mini supermarket, practise counting, and sort foods by colour, size, and type.
Week 2 – Playing Store
Introducing prices and number recognition. Children become shopkeepers and customers using real-life play.
Week 3 – Money Basics
Coin recognition through coin rubbings, matching activities, and simple purchasing games.
Week 4 – Snack Shop Cooking
A delicious cooking session creating no-bake cookie balls while practising measuring and sequencing.
Week 5 – Budgeting Basics
Using 10 coins, children make purchasing decisions, compare prices, and talk about spending and saving.
Week 6 – Cooking Day: Fractions
Children make mini pizzas and learn about halves and quarters through real food, sharing, and visual crafts.
Week 7 – Restaurant Role-Play
A full pretend restaurant experience: taking orders, adding small totals, and writing simple number combinations.
Week 8 – Market Day!
A fun final celebration. Children set up a class market, act as shop owners and shoppers, and use coins to buy items.
